Yes, I was thinking of leisure=nature_reserve (which is in Map Features, though I had to check - I just picked the menu option in JOSM originally without checking how it was tagging the area). I'm not sure what to suggest about the rendering though. The trac ticket you mention suggests a symbol such as red squirrel or heron or something. The first two aren't something we'd be likely to find in the local nature reserve (though I suppose the symbol is just that - symbolic), though there were a lot of birds and a few grey squirrels when I was walking in the area. If pushed I'd probably suggest something which resembles a generic bird sort of shape. My artistic skills aren't up to providing such a shape unfortunately.
