I was quite happy to store the sources somewhere else than sourceforge. All the trouble started with an abandoned sourceforge project. I hope having it in svn enables others to participate more easily. There are a lot of things that could be improved. But I'm not sure I will be the one doing all these improvements ;) And using SF only as a file hoster is a bit overkill. What I'm looking for is a location users trust. It's about installing binaries. I do digitally sign the binary. So as long as the signature is valid it's sure the binary was not tampered. We could store the fingerprint of the certificate used for signing on the server. So a wary user could check the authenticity. I have no problems with hosting the binary on my private server. As long as the users are fine with this, I'm also.
