The reason a svn controlled general.conf overrides some setings was that
some users tended to break the system with bad config choices.

The settings in general.conf are those that are more or less critical
for the correct functioning of the client, and should not be overridden.
OTOH I do agree we need something for special cases.
But: For lowzoom I'd like to see changes made in the svn version of
general.conf, maybe split the parameters up in minimal margin/maximal
margin.

For testing there should be a local.conf, overriding general.conf, but
the client should very noisily complain if that file is found and used.
Maybe even refuse upload, like it does now when the local copy is out of
sync with svn.

Tip of the day: Did you know "xy mode" doesn't check for svn status anymore?

Tip of the day2: Did you know there is some rudimentary testing script
that can automatically visually compare font rendering and report errors
if the rendering of the test sentence doesn't look as expected?

I'm probably going to code some warning sometime next week, along with
adding local.conf at the end of config files to read, unless one of you
beats me to it.
