Hi,

Sorry if I'm on the wrong ML, I dindn't find anything for VM-specific
problems and/or bugs, but I'd be happy to be redirected at the right
location if needed :)

Now, the problem (mostly a bug report):

I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 VM yesterday (from the Hetzner mirror [1]
IIRC) [2], and setup a VirtualBox machine to use the unzipped VDI. But I
couldn't get it to boot: I always got a root partition detection
failure, and then dropped into BusyBox.
I first tried to chroot in the machine (via a LiveCD) to re-run
grub-update, hopefully fixing the UUIDs, but it didn't work -- although
the UUID seemed right. I then did a full-upgrade (which upgraded the
kernel, grub and a few others), which fixed the problem: the machine now
boots and runs cleanly! :)

I wonder if it is a problem of the VDI, a problem with VirtualBox or
what, but it's a little odd and needs quite some will to get it to work.
Anyway I'd say that providing an upgraded system would probably fix the
issue.

My system infos, if it matters:
OS: Debian Sid (up-to-date)
VB: VirtiualBox OSE v3.2.6 (Debian's 3.2.6-dfsg-2)
OSM VM: 10.04, downloaded from [1]

Kind regards,
Colomban
