Sounds like there is a register in the counter which totalizes the cycles measured over gate_time * num_to_average seconds, and it's not wide enough to represent 100 * 99 * 10,000,000 cycles.
I would do the averaging on a host PC with a GPIB controller to work around that. It won't give you longer gate times but it will give you the ability to average as many readings as you want. -- john, KE5FX > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Behalf Of Rick Karlquist > Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 3:40 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Cc: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [time-nuts] Fine print on HP 5334B > > > I don't have much more of an answer to give you other than > just reiterating that Ken the software man did more than we > had a right to expect, as it is, given what he had to work with. > > _______________________________________________ time-nuts mailing list [email protected] https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts
