And, relevant to the thermal time constant discussion.. That book has a great section on thermal diffusion and conductivity, along with a chart of material properties.


A newer book is "building scientific apparatus" by Moore, et al. There's a whole section on precision temperature control (where precision means milliKelvin)..

But not as much fundamentals stuff as in Strong. e.g. Moore assumes you can buy a vacuum pump, Strong tells you how to build one..what a difference 60 years makes.

But even Strong doesn't tell you how to make cast iron from ore. Lindsay Books is your friend, then.
