The first one looks like you are triggering on noise or runt pulses. What does it look like if you set the trigger level much higher, say half of the full voltage? One thing to try... Switch to single shot mode. Turn the room lights way down. Your eye will remember the picture for long enough. The simple solution is to get a digital scope. -- These are my opinions.
