I am finally getting to time to attend to my second HP5065A which never
really worked reliably since I found it on eBay.

The root-cause is now fixed, the digital divider part of the synthesizer
was unstable, because of the unobtanium one-shot being unstable.

I replaced the entire digital divider part with a LPC810 chip, which
can do the job admirably with its PWM output.

So now I am going through the entire unit and checking/tuning as I go.

Has anybody given any thought to how the tuning procedures can be
improved with access to more modern instruments ?

I'm particular interested if anybody know how to measure the S/N using
a HP8568B or HP3577A ?

I'm also wondering if a digital oscilloscope can monitor the phase
splitting a better way than with the X-Y mode display ?
