The Hyperterminal cannot send the 00, even if you can send the 2D using alt-45 and so on, the 00 is the problem. You can try the "terminal" by Bray <https://sites.google.com/site/terminalbpp/> that can send the 00, it can receive in HEX and other things. Another RS232 utility is the Hercules 3.2.8 <https://www.hw-group.com/software/hercules-setup-utility>, I prefer this one, however the Bray's one has the useful "macro repeat" function that sends out the same string of bytes continuously (you set the repetition time, default 1 second), very handy to check serial ports.
