Hello time-nuts, I'll second Tom's comments regarding the Michael Parker rubidium book. LOTS of good information.
My only caution is that the FE-5650A unit that is treated in the book is the older model with 50.225MHz OCXO. The newer (and likely more common now) version uses an architecture that places the DDS inside the physics package loop and has a 60MHz OCXO. These units also have a DB-9 interface with the serial interface on pins 8 and 9 (at 9600 baud).
