I am developing an internet connected device that does data
logging. I need a method of synchronizing
the clocks on these devices within +/- 2 seconds. Time would be updated approximately 4
times a day. These devices will be
sold in all parts of North America. I am guessing that there will be around 200
to 300 devices sold a year. If
there is more then 1 device on the same LAN then only one device will get it’s
time from the Internet and act as a server to the remaining devices on the
LAN. As a guess I would think that
only about 50 to 100 out of the 300 would actually be getting their time from
the Internet. The other obstacle
that I face is that there is not much of a user interface to do much
configuration so any solution that I come up with will basically be hard coded
in the software. About the only configuration
will be if it gets it’s time locally or from a server on the Internet.
My question to the list is should I use pool.nts.org or is
there some other way to accomplish what I need? I don’t want to end up on some
black list somewhere because my devices are taxing the network.
Please provide ANY suggestions.
Thanks
Steve
