Is the www.pool.ntp.org server down?
It or the proxy server it is hiding behind does seem to be down.
This bring up another question - how redundant is the pool.ntp.org
infrastructure- specifically the primary DNS server - if it fails what
happens?
The pool.ntp.org domain is being mirrored by four other DNS servers:
% dig -t ns pool.ntp.org
; <<>> DiG 9.2.2 <<>> -t ns pool.ntp.org
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;pool.ntp.org. IN NS
;; ANSWER SECTION:
pool.ntp.org. 86400 IN NS ns1.us.bitnames.com.
pool.ntp.org. 86400 IN NS ns1.mailworx.net.
pool.ntp.org. 86400 IN NS usenet.net.nz.
pool.ntp.org. 86400 IN NS zbasel.fortytwo.ch.
pool.ntp.org. 86400 IN NS aventura.bhms-groep.nl.
All five would have to be down before a significant problem would
happen, and even then other DNS servers would still have cached info...
