I have the impression that a lot of users do the equivalent of "ntpdate
pool.ntp.org" at boot or when their clock is sufficiently off. I think
that an ntpdate a day is a fair use of the pool.

An unscheduled ntpdate is fair... mass ntpdate at 12am or at every :00:00 isn't.

I'm seeing a large spike at 9am, which attribute to people switching on their machines (http://www.nodomain.org/ntp/index.php?rrd_id=0&display=image&view=0)

I have really odd spikes, usually at :00 and :30:

(btw. ignore the scale it's wrong by about 100*... haven't worked out how to use rrdtool properly yet).

I can only imagine what this looks like on the more popular servers...
