I too run linux kernel 2.6, but without the PPSkit patches. Instead I run
a version of David J Schwartz's shm pps driver with a fixed 16 s. poll
interval. I got this initially from Steven Bjork's site:

which is a most interesting article.

My version is modified in various ways, but significantly to collect 14
timestamps, filter out outliers, then take the mean of the remainder of
the offsets. It works well for me.  Tell me off list if you want it.
