Dear list,

Thanks to your helpfulness, I managed to set up Garmin GPS 18 LVC on my
Linux 2.6 machine, and it even works. Thanks to David Taylor and
Richard Leach of this list for their personal help.

I've written a HOWTO for setting this up; it incorporates info from
David's excellent howto for FreeBSDers, as well as Richard's SHM driver
for Linux 2.6 that allows PPS sampling.

The HOWTO is at: http://time.qnan.org

It would be great if y'all could look it over and, if you see mistakes
or things that can be improved, please let me know. Otherwise, enjoy.

Hopefully this document encourages more stratum-1 servers! :-)

P.S. Unfortunately because my pool time server is in a colocated
facility, I cannot place the GPS there, and the only place I can keep
the GPS has a residential cable connection, so this project was more for
potential benefits in the future and the learning experience rather than
for practical benefits in the short term. I say this so you don't try
to query my timeserver and become surprised that there's no PPS hooked
up to it.
