I believe each IPv6 address will add 26 bytes to the response, 2 for

I agree with you that we shouldn't need to use ipv6.pool.ntp.org.

Wouldn't it be possible to return ipv6 addresses when queried for AAAA RR and ipv4 addresses for A RR? I haven't experimented with DNS on ipv6, but it seems to me that an ipv6 host should query for AAAA RR.
