In my experience you're better off just serving time for as long as you have the IP address[1]. Eventually the clients will go away. In newer versions of ntpd it'll hopefully be better.... - ask [1] as the http://www.pool.ntp.org/join.html says - "Finally, I must emphasize that joining the pool is a long term commitment.
