Update, just got a nice little spike an hour or so ago:

18.64k clients and 120 packets/sec.  And that's at 100mbit netspeed setting.

I'm pretty impressed with the new system.  I think these very quick
bursts will probably be easier on home users than the old system (that
from what I recall wasn't really that much of a system), especially
since the spikes are going to be much smaller for users on home connection
