I used to have a computer with a mini-ITX running IPCop but I worked out it cost me £150 (about USD$300) a year to run in terms of electricity costs. A hardware router cost about £15 (about USD$30) a year to run. So I thought it wasn't really worth it - considering I had 3 computers running at the same time, a MythTV backend, server and IPCop - total £450 (USD$900) a year to run. Far too much! It's now just one computer and a router, and offsourced my email as spam detection demanded too much CPU and memory. It's far cheaper for me this way. Good idea though!
