The two major ISPs in my city refuse to interconnect, so traffic from one to the other goes two provinces west and back again. I guess that's better than a few years ago when it went all the way to New Jersey and back (we're in west central Canada). Still, I suppose I don't see any harm in it, and in some cases it could be beneficial. However, some zones will be very lightly populated.
