Legislators protest communion recommendation Forty-eight congressional Roman Catholic Democrats have signed a letter to protest the idea that politicians who support abortion rights should be denied communion. This is the “wall of separation of church and state” Jefferson was talking about. The First Amendment was written to protect churches from this kind of influence from lawmakers. Churches have to be free to pursue their own doctrine and discipline their members. Hat tip to Antioch Road.
