With John Kerry going on almost 20 years in the Senate and Ted Kennedy with more than 40 years experience, Democrats have dominated in the state for decades. Yet since the beginning of the 20th century, 17 men have served as U.S. senators from the Bay State and ten were Republicans. Until Democrat John F. Kennedy came along in 1953, nine of the previous eleven senators from Massachusetts were Republicans. (Source: The Political Graveyard)
