DSCC Attachs Jim DeMint

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, a national political-action committee that gives money and other support to Democrats running for the U.S. Senate, is currently running an ad that distorts Congressman DeMint's record.
The ad falsely states DeMint authored a bill that could allow employers to double insurance premiums for workers. It also alleges he voted against protecting breast cancer screening coverage in insurance plans.
These accusations bear no resemblance to the truth.
DeMint has promoted two initiatives: health savings accounts and the Small Business Health Fairness Act.
Health savings accounts allow employees to start tax-free accounts to pay for services not covered by traditional insurance plans. Critics say the accounts could drive up premiums for some if wealthier workers opt out of traditional plans.
The Small Business Health Fairness Act would allow businesses to pool their resources and offer insurance plans to employees. DeMint voted against a Democratic amendment that would have mandated coverage for certain services, including mammograms.
