Son of Late Officer Questions Bush Memos

The authenticity of newly unearthed memos stating that George W. Bush failed to meet standards of the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War was questioned Thursday by the son of the late officer who reportedly wrote the memos.

Looks like some Democratic operatives have created fake documents to make President Bush look bad. Do they really hate Bush that much?  Look what they've resorted to!

What others are saying:

  • More Problems Surface With '60 Minutes' Documents
Additional questions were circulating Friday about the contents of four purported military documents that served as the basis for a Bush-bashing segment on the CBS News program "60 Minutes" Wednesday night.
  • Kerry Campaign Denies Coordinating Attacks on Bush's Guard Record
The White House says the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry is "coordinating" the attacks on President George W. Bush's National Guard record, just as the Kerry campaign accused the Bush administration of coordinating with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. As CNSNews.com reported on Thursday, there are questions about whether someone faked documents used by CBS to criticize Bush's National Guard service.
  • 'Shell Shock' at CBS Over Possibly Fraudulent Documents
We here at the Washington Wrap are not crazy about talking about ourselves, but we thought you would be interested in a statement put out by CBS News regarding the controversy over the authenticity of records on President Bush's National Guard service in Wednesday's "60 Minutes" report.

Here's an interesting twist on the story.
  • McAuliffe denies involvement in memos flap
Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe today said neither his organization nor John Kerry's campaign leaked to CBS documents questioning President Bush's service record, which may have been forged. He suggested White House adviser Karl Rove could be behind the documents.
  • Rather Digs In: the Documents Are Authentic
CBS News anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent Dan Rather publicly defended his reporting Friday morning after questions were raised about the authenticity of newly unearthed memos aired on CBS which asserted that George W. Bush ignored a direct order from a superior officer in the Texas Air National Guard.
  • '60 Minutes' Document — Real or Fake?
I worked with IBM Selectric II (golf ball) typewriters for proposals to the government (their proposal specifications). There was no font ball available with the superscript "th" although there were font balls for mathematical expressions (stop in the middle of typing, change balls, type, change back—dreaded by most word processors of the day), and it's clear that someone wrote this document in MS Word, saved it as a PDF, and opened it up in Adobe Photoshop, changed the rotation, clarity, and increased the 'noise' and contrast—probably about an hour's time to produce this fake document.
