Adults in Anderson, S.C., are still allowed to sit on their front porches, but if Bea Thompson, the mayor pro tem, gets her way, the city will soon be able to fine homeowners who rock there in ugly chairs or display anything not specified as suitably attractive by local lawmakers. A July 16 report by WYFF-TV in Greenville, S.C., quotes Ms. Thompson saying that residents should have "appropriate porch furniture." Aunt Bee was never so bossy.
The idiocy of this kind of regulation is so blatantly obvious, it doesn't need further comment.
