I'm not sure what to make of your statement. That's on the server, not the 
client, right?

You must make sure that the client and server versions are compatible - which 
generally means that if you update the client then the server also needs to be 
updated (actually that's the cart before the horse - if you update the server 
you must update all the clients too). 

I'm sure that there are some versions that run together Ok but I doubt that 
4.0.3 server runs with 4.1 or 4.2 clients.
