I know, it sounds like I am doing the things right so I am very puzzled by the unexpected behaviour.
I have modified the transition from draft to router to requiring role of "Sales", and that worked as expected. But somehow specifying roles for the transitions towards the cancel nodes failed to work. Any roleless user could cancel the sales order.
