I've had some problems in the past with that button also. However I don't agree with your solution ;)
Making the interface of the client depend on the user-group is not a very good idea, specially now that OpenERP has become more of a framewort (OpenObject). I have developed some apps with it and deleting objects is something normal in those contexts. A default configuration so that no one can delete any object (even admin) should be enough. If something HAS to be deleted, admin can assign himself privileges temporarily and so so.
