I give up, then come back to see if anything has improved. Sadly, OpenERP still
lacks adequate documentation, IMO. It seems to me that openerp is almost a good
project, but it never quite gets there.

FWIW: I recently installed LedgerSMB on my web site. It took me two tries.
First I tried to install it using lighttpd as my web server, that did not work.
I wiped everything, and reinstalled, and it worked the second time.

Installing LedgerSMB involves: Installing perl, and several perl modules,
installing and configuring apache, installing and configuring postgresql, and
of course installing and configuring ledgersmb itself. There are many steps
involved, probably more steps than there are for installing OpenERP.

So why is it that I can install ledgersmb, and get it working, but I not do the
same with openerp? I think it comes down to one word: documentation. LedgerSMB
is certainly no easier to install and configure than OpenERP; but IMO,
LedgerSMB has adequate documentation, and openerp does not.

Once installed, I can actually use ledgersmb, the interface is fairly
intuitive, and there are no modules to install. I installed openerp allinone on
xp, but I could not use it. It seems that nothing works without installing some
module, but the modules would not install, I still don't know why.

Some say that ledgersmb is just simplistic accounting package, not an entire
erp. FYI: ledgersmb includes human resources, project management, and
point-of-sale. LedgerSMB also can print checks, and print a balance sheet, and
income statement. LedgerSMB does not have a CRM, however they are integrating
hermes crm with ledgersmb.

Anyway, that is my experience.
