The current year-end closing code is completely inadequate and it really would be good if v5.0 could have a good solution to the "Close Fiscal Year" problems. I proposed what I think is a very good solution to the issues surrounding year-end closing: http://openerp.com/forum/topic5429.html
I would hope Fabien would take some time to consider what is proposed. The solution creates more of a sliding scale type of solution which can be used to keep year-end closes accurate no matter how many years you want to consider or how many years of data you wish to keep.
