That's the kind of software which takes care of delivering the mail to the recipient.
In the Un*x world Postfix and Exim are popular choices for that. Usually they come preconfigure with your installation and you could easily tell them to do what you want to accomplish. Don't know the code of the SMTP-module but maybe, it's not a bad idea to use a MTA as a mail relay for reliability, performance, filtering etc. anyway.
