As Fabien often says, the choice of Open Source is a choice of time vs money.
If you know Windows and you have the money, and you have no time to lose, go 
for Windows 2008. It's expensive but at least the system should be solid enough.
On the other hand if you know Linux, or you have the time to learn, it will 
always be cheaper, and once you get used to it your setup will be more 
reliable. It takes a lot of time to learn however, so be prepared.
Our business chose Linux long ago for all its business-critical apps, and we 
never regretted.
