The test I just made was on Windows XP. We had some windows specific problems on import also that were fixed a couple of weeks ago in the stable branch. The build we use was done using the script available at http://www.openobject.com/forum/topic12184.html
Linux makes it easier to keep uptodate with the latest versions, but the windows version works fine.
