if you use one of those Java based ECM such as Nuxeo or Alfresco, you could 
easily use the OOOR (Open Object On Rails) connector to grab/send information 
from/to OpenERP. This would be using OOOR from JRuby using the JSR223 (or 
Redbridge eventually), we use it successfully in the Ketlle ETL for instance 
with the TerminatOOOR plugin:

Doing this you'll avoid manually coding Java webservices plumbing code ans stay 
in higher business abstractions while still retaining object/classpath 
compatibility with the Java world.
