Yep Yannick I agree

even what is called secure is not that much secured.
The server is still exposed to internet. It doesn't enforce password policies 
and has some weaknesses.
For hosted servers I recommend to use ssh tunnelling or ssl vpn.
If not available, iptables can help to restrict access somehow.
Given these precautions, one can use xml-rpc only protocole which is needed for 
many optional services like mailgate.
