Thank you very much for your email and your help.  I am using TinyOS 1.1.14,
and I don't seem to have a "beta" folder under contrib/xbow.  Am I missing
something?

Another way of accomplishing this is to use the XMesh apps. They have the 
ability to act upon so-called XCommands. You'll have to implement your own 
commands, though. There are only some fundamental commands available, such 
as setting the leds, start/stop measure, change measure interval etc. The 
PC side command app resides in contrib/xbow/beta/tools/src/xcmd. Please 
note that it's still beta as the path indicates.
