For the sake of precision for anyone following this thread, as Phil
shows in the code snippet from Main, interrupts are disabled only in
Main.StdControl -- specifically Main.StdControl.init and
Main.StdControl.start.

As you would expect, StdControl.init and StdControl.start behave
normally (like any other command) when wired anywhere other than to
Main.StdControl.
