This mostly depends on the height above the ground. At ground level, you can expect about 20 feet, sometimes less. On the ground, the type of antenna you use plays a big role in how far your motes can transmit. Also, the terrain can play a big role - are you in grass, or dirt, or pavement? Grass holds water, which can change the dielectric around the motes and affect range.
About 3 feet or higher above the ground, you can probably expect to reach 100 feet. Holding the motes 8 feet in the air, I've reached about 200 feet on a good day - but with significant packet loss. -David -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brett Parsons Sent: Monday, May 08, 2006 11:24 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Tinyos-help] Mica2 Transmission Range Hi All, Can anyone give me a rough idea as to the maximum transmission range of a mica2 mote? I know that this would be influenced by many factors (e.g., interference), but if I were to place some motes in the middle of an open field, approx. how far would they be able to transmit?
