I found that my anti-virus software on my PC really slowed the compiling.
Are you running anti-virus softare? If yes, can you disable it and try
another compile?
I run Trend PC-Cillin 2006. It has a task-tray icon so I can turn it off &
on with a click of the mouse. Makes a big difference on my machine.

Boomerang uses the same toolset as TinyOS 2.x. There is no difference
in speed between the 2.x distribution and Boomerang.
It should never take several minutes to compile a program.
