huh...it _should_ work.
I do the enableAck in the init() phase, even though JoeP warned
me that it should be in start(). My version is in my code bolus at:

But it also contains TOSBase mods to pass the radio ACK back to the
host over the serial line. This code (has) works(ed) on mica{2,z}
under TOS v1.1.{7,10}...
Make sure you have all the radio init stuff done before doing enable.
You didn't, by any chance, change anything else in the code
at the same time?
