TOSSIM finally works for me, but not under cygwin :-)
I moved to a Linux virtual machine (running under Windows with MS
Virtual PC) that runs Ubuntu (a version of Debian), installed
tinyos from the Linux RPM's (after converting them to .debs with a
program called alien). I still had to install python 2.3 (the
installed version was 2.4), but after that TOSSIM started to work
with no problems.
Heh.
Prabal Dutta once tossed out the idea of packaging up TinyOS installs
as VMs. Users would just need to download VMWare's free VMPlayer. It
could make installing a lot easier...
I think that once 2.0 makes its way out the door, I'll try to do this
for it. I chatted with Mendel a bit about it, and he noted that the
big issue is redistribution rights. So, for example, making a VM with
windows installed available would be problematic, but with Linux it
would be no big deal. The only trick with Linux is the Sun JDK
license, but I'm sure there would be an easy way to handle that
(e.g., when you first boot it installs it for you).
