I'll venture out on a limb and say if you use Ubuntu 6.10, the instructions on my page, plus the debs from Stanford give a 99.99% chance of success. The typical sources of failure would be weird hardware, keyboard-to-chair interface issues, or something rare we haven't found that we'd like to fix. So I'd go Ubuntu.
