What you said is right. There aren't any differences in between programming a
COM port or a USB-based COM port. The driver takes care of that.
It has been done before. As far as I remember, the most complicated things
are:
1) Calculating the CRC for messages.
2) Taking care of different TinyOS message formats (i.e. Mica, MicaZ)
