I'm similarly interested in this subject for the MDA300, which comes
with a normally open and normally closed relay.  If these are not
connected to EXCITATION_X and DELAY_BEFORE_MEASUREMENT (which is fixed
at 20 or 50ms, documentation differs), then I'll need direct access.

I'm surprised by how little attention is given in literature and
available products to making at least one digital output available
(turning LEDs on and off on the MICAz gets its share).  To conserve
power, I need to turn on a sensor, wait for it to settle, take a reading
(or maybe average 4 or so), then turn the sensor back off.  The MDA300
team seemed to be the only ones to realize the importance of such an
application, but there are limited app notes or examples on how to
change its parameters or otherwise gain access to its ports.
