Typically, the MEMS accelerometer outputs do not get affected by change
in magnetic field. So, this behavior could in fact be something to do
with the surge code. Since I am not familiar with the surge application
too well, I would suggest you to program the Motes using xmesh>XMTS310
app provided with MoteView and see if you can duplicate this dependency
behavior using MoteView>XServe. MoteView can be downloaded from the link
below.

Subject: [Tinyos-help] unusual accelerometer reading

hi all
we are working on this project where we need to get the accelerometer
reading from the micaz motes. the sensor board used is the MTS310.
after caliberating the accelerometer we were able to get proper values
for the accelX reading, but the accelY reading was causing a problem.
it showed a different reading when the micaz motes were working with
batteries to when the micaz mote was connected to the programming
board(MIB510)along with the sensors to when a magnetic field was brought
near the mote.

what i will like to know is why is there a variation in accelerometer
reading in the Y axis due to magnetic field, when there is no variation
in the X axis reading due to the same field?

code i am using : surge
tinyos version : 1.1.15
motes :micaz
sensor board :MTS310
code on pc :xlisten provided by crossbow

please help me regarding the same or please let me know if i am doing
something wrong

Thanks
