Hi Gary,

XSniffer is a VB-based GUI and should install independent of Cygwin or
TinyOS/MoteWorks environment you have.
XServe, however requires a specific Cygwin dll (included in MoteWorks
and MoteView installer).
Xlisten provides only a very limited subset of XServe features/functions
and it can only read data coming in from your sensor network (i.e.
doesn't support bi-directional communication). Similarly it lacks XML,
web interface, OTAP, XCommand, Serial Forwarder etc that XServe offers.

I hope it helps,

Subject: [Tinyos-help] How can I use Xserve and XSniffer without
install?

Hope any Crossbow people can read this email.

I installed Cygwin and TinyOS manually. Now I want to use the xsever and
xsniffer that provided by MoteWork. I tried to install some tools from
the MoteWork installation package, like xsniffer and moteconfig without
doing full installation. However, I could not use xserve and xsniffer.
When I tried to run xserve in cygwin, it show the cygwin.dll1 error. And
I could not even open xsniffer when I double clicked the icon on
desktop. I wonder that how I can use them without installing the whole
motework? Actually, I did try to use the full installation. But I could
not even compiler any tinyos code in cygwin this time.

BTW, I want to know that what is the different between xsever and
xlisten? Did anyone got xsniffer work? Thanks in advance
