It was originally 30; then a length field was added and it became 29
in the mica platform. IIRC, it was made 28 in T2 to simplify alignment
on 16-bit platforms.
Why 30 originally? Jason Hill once joked he picked it out of the air
as something that seemed reasonable. :)
