I don't have any better ideas but... if you are going to use a
standard prefix, maybe:
safe$tmpLen.
It indicates "more magic" to me.
Although, I'd rather have the warnings left in than use a filter.
Another option may be to use macros.

#define DEFSAFE(a)
#end

DEFSAFE(int tempLen);
...
}
(okay, maybe this wasn't the best example)
