Yes -- and unless it is demonstrable in *the current* setup that, say,
MHLQI performs good while CTP performs bad, it's a good base to start
on. (Showing this could possibly point to problems with the CTP
protocol implementation.)

But there are different strategies to combat the effects (depending
what the cause is) using different MAC protocols (see Funneling-MAC),
routing protocols (CTP improves on MHLQI, for instance, by allowing
multiple sinks), clever heterogeneous overlay-networks, various
hybrids, and no shortage of different theoretical approaches...

Of course, the first place to start is to find out why *the current*
setup isn't as performant as desired.
