I don't think so,

On of my co-workers uses Ubuntu 8.04 with a tinyos 2.1.0 install (no tinyos
before) and everything seems to work ok.

I use packages, but I think tomorrow I will try to install in my corrupted
computer from cvs or rpm after purging tinyos current install.
